Join the MCA-I Letter Campaign To Save OC’s Only Community TV Station!

KOCE-TV NEEDS YOUR HELP - NOW!
If you haven’t heard, a recent court decision has the thrown the future
existence of KOCE-TV back into the hands of the Orange Coast Community College
District, aka the OCCCD. To say the least, it is a complicated legal mess.
(follow the link below to a good condensed background paper). The District is
under pressure to take the easy way out and sell out Orange County’s only
locally owned, community-oriented TV station to a religious broadcaster from
Texas! We Can’t Let That
Happen. We’re imploring all media professionals and their friends to write
a letter to the OCCCD NOW! Ideally, it will arrive before their June 21st public
Board of Directors meeting. Everything you need to know –including a
suggested letter - is below. If you can also be at the meeting to express your
support in person, great! But a letter will have very important impact.
Please do this now! It needs to be received by June 20th!
The Media Communications Association International (MCAI) LA/OC Chapter Board of Directors voted unanimously to support KOCE and to rally the film, television and media production community to join us! But this effort really requires you take action as well as to encourage family, friends, neighbors and any other organization you may be connected with to do the same. Please write a letter now and please ask everyone you know to go to www.mcai-oc.org and read this and copy this and get involved!
No matter what your religious affiliation, or feeling about having another religious TV station it should not be done at the expense of Orange County’s only community service and PBS affiliate. And certainly not by a large organization from out of state that has no ability or intent to serve Orange County. KOCE President, Mel Rogers, has provided us with a condensed overview which you should read thoughtfully.
After reading the information below please adapt this letter into your own words and paste it onto your personal and/or business letterhead and send to the OCCCD now!
This situation will not be resolved easily and you will hear more about it, I’m sure. But this first step—to remind the OCCCD board that it must develop a backbone and meet its obligation to serve the interests of the residents of Orange County—is crucial!
The link below will take you to a background piece prepared by KOCE that will fill you in on the history of the situation.
The link below is a sample letter we urge you to write today!
