Songs About Everything
Written and Sung by John Primm
The Establishment
OK - here's another anti-establishment piece from the 60's.
In many ways nothing has changed, except for kids figuring
out how two faced their parents are much sooner.
Truth is taught to children and we learned when went wrong
We were spanked for lying, stealing cookies or for having fun
Oh the hours our folks would scold us for telling a fib or two,
But now employers can't hold us without lying a lot to you.
Business is business as they say
and I guess the establishment's here to stay.
Honesty is gone when they do it.
It's to make a fast buck and that's all there's to it.
The history books of America taught us how to be good
Be honest , true and loyal, and everything we should.
But our minds are troubled deeply, we're depressed every single day
Cuz business is completely not the truth but what you say.
Business is business as they say
and I guess the establishment's here to stay.
Honesty is gone when they do it.
It's to make a fast buck and that's all there's to it.
Why sure business runs our country and without it we'd be poor
Money's great, I guess, if that's how you maintain life's score.
For me I feel like moving out of business and I'll sing
About the money I'll be losing and the principle of the thing.
Business is business as they say
and I guess the establishment's here to stay.
Honesty is gone when they do it.
It's to make a fast buck and that's all there's to it.
